Three people were shot in Halden, Norway, early Sunday, with a suspect in custody and no further danger to the public, police said.
The incident occurred before 8 a.m. local time in a remote area of Halden municipality, near the Swedish border. Emergency services, including at least three helicopters, responded to the scene, according to a witness cited by NRK. A series of gunshots was reported in the area.
Operations leader Gisle Lindheim Sveen of the Øst Police District confirmed authorities had control of a suspect. “It should no longer be dangerous in the area. We are working to get an overview of the situation,” Sveen said .
Halden Mayor Fredrik Holm said the municipality activated a crisis team at 9 a.m. to coordinate with police and prepare support for relatives. “We are working to get an overview of what happened and form an understanding of the situation,” Holm told Dagbladet .
Authorities have not released details about the victims’ identities, conditions, or the suspect’s motive. The sequence of events remains under investigation.
