Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have purchased Strancally Castle, a 19th-century Gothic-style estate in County Waterford, Ireland, a spokesman for Zuckerberg confirmed on Thursday.
The three-story neogothic property, built around 1827, sits along the Blackwater River in the southeast of the country, approximately 150 kilometers southwest of Dublin. The castle was previously owned by Michael Alen-Buckley, a co-founder of a London-based investment firm. The purchase price was not disclosed, and the transaction does not appear in Ireland’s public property price register.
A spokesman for Zuckerberg said the family is “excited to take care of this historic property and looks forward to spending time in Ireland,” where Meta maintains its international headquarters. The company employs about 1,500 people in Ireland, with its European base located in Dublin. Zuckerberg will continue to reside primarily in the United States but plans to use the castle during business visits to the country.
The Irish Times, which first reported the acquisition, estimated the property’s value at between €20 million and €30 million. According to state architecture archives, the castle underwent significant renovations in 2003.
