Dutch court jails temporary worker for four years over rape of minor at youth care facility
A Dutch court sentenced a 29-year-old temporary worker to four years in prison for the rape of a minor girl at the iHub youth care institution in Alphen aan den Rijn, according to reports published on Wednesday. A colleague received a six-month sentence for sexual assault in the same case .
The convictions follow investigations into abuse at the closed youth care facility, where multiple staff members were accused of sexually assaulting underage residents. Dutch media confirmed the sentences were handed down on Wednesday .
In a separate case in Sweden, a 48-year-old man was acquitted of two counts of child rape despite DNA evidence and the victim’s testimony. The court ruled the evidence did not meet the threshold of proof beyond reasonable doubt, citing possible secondary transfer of DNA. The man had previously been convicted in 2015 of hundreds of rapes against his stepdaughter over a five-year period, a fact noted in the ruling as aggravating his credibility .
Also on Wednesday, Dutch prosecutors demanded a four-year prison term for Fred Houben, the former bassist of the punk band Heideroosjes, for possession and distribution of child abuse images over several years .
