Russian President Vladimir Putin escalates rhetoric against the West while reinforcing military and diplomatic alliances, as Ukraine’s former leader calls for decisive action to end the war.

Putin warns of a potential "war with Europe" and dismisses Western threats as empty, according to remarks published by *Pravda* . In a combative address, he frames Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a defensive struggle against NATO expansion, declaring that Moscow will not back down from its security demands. The Kremlin’s messaging extends to propaganda efforts targeting European Chechens, with appeals by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s allies now integrated into state media narratives, reports the *Caucasian Knot* .

Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko urges the West to "force Putin into peace," arguing that only sustained military pressure and economic isolation can compel Russia to negotiate . His call comes as Germany reaffirms its refusal to automatically grant asylum to Russian conscripts fleeing mobilization, insisting on case-by-case assessments despite the ongoing war .

Meanwhile, Putin’s domestic agenda reveals a paradox: while he projects defiance abroad, Russia launches a $26 billion state-backed longevity program, described by *The Wall Street Journal* as an effort to extend his rule by combating aging . The initiative, led by elite scientists, underscores the Kremlin’s focus on securing Putin’s long-term grip on power.

On the geopolitical stage, the China-US-Russia triangle remains volatile. An analysis by *Commonspace* argues that Nancy Pelosi’s 2022 Taiwan visit—once seen as a US victory—has instead deepened Beijing’s alignment with Moscow, complicating Western efforts to isolate Russia . The Kremlin’s brief but provocative return to the Venice Biennale, where its pavilion reopened for just three days, further signals Russia’s intent to challenge European cultural boycotts .

With no end in sight to the war in Ukraine, Putin’s strategy hinges on outlasting Western resolve—backed by China’s economic lifelines and a domestic apparatus designed to sustain his leadership indefinitely.

Opinion: The future of the China-US-Russia triangle after Pelosis visit to Taiwan Since February 24, 2022, the international communitys focus was concentrated entirely on the war in Ukraine and the growing Russia – West confrontation. It seemed that nothing could change the situation until the end of hostilities in Ukraine. However, on August 2 and 3, almost everyones attention shifted from Ukraine to Taiwan. As the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, stated her intention to visit Taiwan, up to half a million people were watching the trajectory of her plane on air flight tracking sites. The negative reaction of China, including the warning of President Xi during his conversation with President Biden that those who played with fire would be perished by it, created hype around this visit. Many were discussing the possibility of Chinese military jets closing the airspace over Taiwan and preventing Pelosis plane from landing in Taiwan, while some enthusiasts were even contemplating the possibility of a US-China direct military clash. As Pelosi landed in Taiwan and met with the Taiwanese President, the global social media was full of amateur assessments about the strategic victory of the US and the confirmation of the US global hegemony. However, as the dust settles down, and information noise and manipulation eventually decreases, a more serious assessment is needed to understand the real consequences of this visit.
