Ten killed in two separate car crashes in Romania, police say
Ten people died in a car accident involving an explosion in Romania, police said.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a 20-year-old driver without a license struck three pedestrians on DN 61 in Corbii Mari, Dâmbovița County, before the vehicle overturned off the road, killing five people, according to reports from Digi24 and Adevărul . The incident occurred in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Separately, in Brașov, a 50-year-old driver lost control of his car near a roundabout on Mureșenilor Street around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, mounting the curb and striking three pedestrians, two of whom died, Digi24 reported . Authorities are investigating whether the driver suffered a medical episode, such as an epileptic seizure, as suggested by unnamed sources. The driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs. Surveillance footage captured the vehicle speeding onto the sidewalk.
The Brașov victims included two German tourists and a man from Piatra Neamț. Traffic in the area was blocked for several hours.
In another fatal crash in Romania, a car veered into oncoming traffic on DN 61 in Corbii Mari, killing five people, including the driver, who had no license, according to local police cited by HotNews and Adevărul . The vehicle first hit three pedestrians walking on the roadside before overturning.
Police have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected. Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
