Tech billionaire Elon Musk will support Donald Trump's Republican Party in the upcoming parliamentary elections, despite a previous falling out between the two. Musk's organization, America PAC, will focus on advertising during the campaign, according to reports from Axios.
A senior Trump advisor, James Blair, stated that the return of America PAC would give the Republicans a "huge boost." Musk had previously donated over $250 million to Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, which helped secure Trump's re-election and earned Musk a position as a close confidant in the White House.
However, their relationship soured in mid-2025 due to a dispute over a tax law. Musk publicly claimed that Trump would not have been re-elected without his support, while Trump accused Musk of being upset over the elimination of electric car subsidies. Although they have since reconciled, their relationship remains distant.
The upcoming elections in early November will be crucial for Trump's remaining term, as Republicans currently hold the majority in both chambers of Congress. If Democrats manage to take control of even one chamber, they could block Trump's legislative agenda and initiate investigations into his administration.
Blair praised America PAC's role in the 2024 presidential election, stating that it was an "essential partner" in mobilizing voters, particularly in swing states that often decide the outcome of presidential elections.
Meanwhile, during a visit to a General Motors plant in Michigan, Trump claimed that the state was "thriving" due to his tariff policies. Standing beside new GM vehicles before signing a Corvette, Trump said, "Car companies are doing better than they've ever done," adding, "It's amazing what tariffs will do for General Motors."
However, economists and industry groups have warned that tariffs have increased costs for manufacturers and contributed to higher prices. Rising gasoline costs linked to the conflict in Iran have further squeezed household budgets. Polls also show many Americans believe tariffs have pushed prices higher, weighing on consumer confidence.
The contrast is especially significant in battleground Michigan ahead of the state's primary elections. Trump carried Michigan in 2016 and again in 2024 after losing it to Joe Biden in 2020. Even some of Trump's supporters at the rally acknowledged the financial strain. Lisa Scherer, 64, an Ohio resident who drove nearly five hours to attend the event, said high gas prices are "hurting a lot" and making it "very rough" to afford everyday necessities.
Current poll numbers for several Republican candidates in contested districts do not look good, according to reports.
