Ryanair to challenge passengers claim of being partially ejected through broken window on Greece-Germany flight
Ryanair will contest a passenger’s claim that he was partially sucked out of a broken window during a July flight from Greece to Germany, CEO Michael O’Leary said Thursday in Dublin.
O’Leary told reporters after the airline’s annual shareholder meeting that 61-year-old Serbian businessman Ljubisa Karović was “certainly sucked toward the window” but “no part of his body” exited the aircraft. “He was not half out of the window. No part of his face went out the window. We don’t believe any part of his body got out the window,” O’Leary said, noting Karović was restrained by his seatbelt .
Karović’s lawyer has stated the sudden decompression pulled the passenger’s head and right arm through the shattered window of the Boeing 737 before other travelers pulled him back inside. Karović later told The Guardian he believed his seatbelt kept him inside the cabin as he lost consciousness .
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with participation from Boeing, engine manufacturer GE, and Ryanair. O’Leary said the airline will await the NTSB’s final report before formally challenging the passenger’s account .
