Dublin’s tourism authority, Fáilte Ireland, has launched a neighborhood plan to redirect tourist spending beyond the city center, aiming to ease congestion and high prices in areas like Christ Church and Trinity. The initiative seeks proposals from agencies to develop up to eight neighborhoods, with a pilot program planned for three, according to a tender document published on Saturday.
The plan emphasizes “place-based and neighborhood-focused tourism development” to disperse visitors, spread economic benefits, and support sustainable growth. Fáilte Ireland’s document states the approach could strengthen local identity and community participation.
Neighborhoods such as Phibsborough, the Liberties, Stoneybatter, Smithfield, and Inchicore—known for their cultural appeal but lacking major attractions—could be targeted. The authority has not specified which areas will be prioritized or when the pilot will begin .
