Aston Villa end Premier League win drought with 3-2 victory over Tottenham
Aston Villa secured their first Premier League win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, tapping in Boubacar Kamara’s cross. Nicolas Jackson extended Villa’s lead early in the second half after Jan Paul van Hecke failed to clear a long ball, before Emi Buendía sealed the win with a long-range strike into the top corner 11 minutes from time. Tottenham’s late rally saw Conor Gallagher’s shot deflect off Matty Cash and Jan Paul van Hecke head in a stoppage-time consolation, but it was not enough to avoid a fifth straight league game without a win for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Villa manager Unai Emery praised his team’s resilience, singling out striker Jackson and goalkeeper Zion Suzuki for their performances. Suzuki made key saves early, denying Savio twice and turning away Archie Gray’s powerful strike before Villa took control.
Tottenham, who had spent over £300 million on new players this summer, ended their league goal drought but remained winless. De Zerbi later said his side needed to show more fight, focusing on their behavior rather than quality .
