Gardaí are investigating after six people were found in a distressed state inside a shipping container at Rosslare Europort on Thursday morning.
Emergency services responded after a distress call from one of the individuals inside the container, which was aboard a ship en route to Rosslare. Upon docking, Gardaí from Wexford and National Ambulance Service personnel searched the vessel and discovered six men—five adults and one juvenile—inside the container. All were taken to Wexford General Hospital by ambulance.
As of Thursday evening, three remain hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries, while the juvenile is receiving appropriate support. Two others have been refused permission to land, according to Gardaí, who are investigating the circumstances with assistance from the Garda National Immigration Bureau.
Cllr. Ger Carthy, Operation Resource manager with the National Ambulance Service in Wexford, said two ambulances and three response teams were dispatched to the port. “They might have been in the container for up to three days,” he said, describing the group as distressed .
A similar incident occurred in January 2025, when nine people were found in a shipping container at the same port, prompting a Garda and immigration investigation .
