Taylor Swift becomes most-awarded artist in MTV VMA history with 31 wins in Los Angeles

Taylor Swift became the most-awarded artist in MTV Video Music Awards history on Sunday in Los Angeles, surpassing Beyoncé with 31 wins after receiving the inaugural Artist Director Honors prize. The pop star also won Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” and Best Direction for “Opalite,” and premiered her self-directed video for “Patient Zero,” starring Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson, during the ceremony .
In her acceptance speech, Swift dedicated her Video of the Year award to the late country icon Dolly Parton, calling her the “ultimate showgirl” and praising her storytelling . She noted she had written and directed 18 of the roughly 60 music videos she has worked on over 20 years .
The Artist Director Honors, a new award recognizing artists who expand the possibilities of music video storytelling, was presented to Swift by actress Dakota Johnson, who called her a visionary . The ceremony was held at the Peacock Theater and broadcast live on CBS .
