Armed man arrested near Trumps Los Angeles golf course ahead of fundraiser, weapons and notes found
Authorities arrested a 38-year-old man carrying ammunition and a loaded gun near President Donald Trump’s Los Angeles-area golf course two days before Trump’s scheduled visit for a Republican National Committee fundraiser, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Jeanine John Taele was detained Sunday at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes after deputies observed him photographing and filming the grounds while appearing to monitor security preparations, according to the sheriff’s department. Deputies found a 16-round magazine with ammunition in his pocket and later recovered a loaded pistol from his vehicle in the golf course parking lot .
A search of Taele’s home in Downey on Monday uncovered an illegally modified rifle, a second pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, radio signal devices and notebooks containing “concerning statements,” officials said. The sheriff’s department, working with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the U.S. Secret Service, did not specify the nature of the statements or whether Taele intended to target Trump or the event .
Taele was already under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department for a separate robbery case, authorities said. He was charged with several felonies, including second-degree robbery, possession of a large-capacity magazine and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, as well as a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to all charges on Monday and was ordered to stay away from the golf course and not possess weapons. Bail was set at $250,000 .
The sheriff’s department stated there was “no credible threat to our communities.” Trump arrived at the golf club Tuesday evening for the Republican National Committee dinner .
In 2025, a jury convicted a man of attempting to assassinate Trump at his Florida country club, according to authorities .
