Ukraine's General Staff reported on Friday that Russian forces lost 2,440 soldiers killed and wounded over the past day, along with 54 artillery systems.

The figures, posted on Facebook by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, bring Russia's total personnel losses since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, to 1,601,830.

In the same 24-hour period, Ukrainian forces also destroyed two tanks and eight armored combat vehicles. They reported destroying six air defense systems, 1,395 operational-tactical drones, and 673 vehicles and fuel tankers.

Since the war began, Ukraine says it has destroyed 12,456 tanks, 25,651 armored combat vehicles, and 51,956 artillery systems. The total also includes 1,744 air defense systems and 452 aircraft. Ukraine reported 356 helicopters and 597,616 drones destroyed as well.

On November 2, the General Staff reported 2,500 Russian soldiers killed, wounded or captured, the highest single-day figure since the invasion began. The previous record was 2,250 on October 21.

By comparison, in spring 2022 Ukrainian reports cited daily Russian losses of 200 to 300 soldiers. In October alone, the General Staff said Russia lost 54,400 killed and seriously wounded, the worst month for Russian forces since the war began.

The General Staff said 167 combat engagements took place along the front line on November 5, with Russian forces most active in attempts to attack in the Pokrovsk direction.

The report marks day 1,717 of the full-scale invasion.

Independent estimates of Russian deaths vary. The Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington estimates between 400,000 and 450,000 killed, while BBC Russian Service and Mediazona have confirmed by name over 281,000 deaths by mid-October 2026.

Dutch military intelligence estimated that by the end of 2025 Russia had lost about 500,000 killed and 1.2 million wounded, while British intelligence estimated similar deaths and about 1.5 million wounded.
