Amazon founder Bezos consortium nears one-third stake in Liverpool FC at 4.4bn valuation

A consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is close to a deal to acquire a one-third stake in Premier League club Liverpool FC, multiple media outlets reported on Monday.
The investor group also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, according to reports from Sky News, Reuters, and Al Jazeera. Sky News reported that the consortium is led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and a former shareholder in Queens Park Rangers. Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group could announce the agreement as early as this week, Sky News added.
The investment would value Liverpool at approximately £4.4 billion ($5.9 billion), according to the reports. FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010 for around $300 million and has since explored outside investment while retaining control of the club. A deal at the reported valuation would mark a significant increase in the club’s worth under FSG’s ownership.
Bezos, 62, is one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, with a fortune estimated by Forbes at over $280 billion. Saverin’s wealth is estimated at $33 billion. Neither Liverpool nor FSG has commented on the reports, Reuters said.
Liverpool won the Premier League title in 2025 and is entering a transitional period following the departure of manager Arne Slot and forward Mohamed Salah. Michael Edwards, credited with helping build the squad that won Liverpool’s first English league title in 30 years in 2020, left his role as chief executive officer of football at FSG in July.
The club’s squad includes Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai, who recently extended his contract with Liverpool until 2031, according to reports cited by HVG. The deal would make Szoboszlai one of the club’s highest-paid players, the Hungarian outlet added.
BBC Sport confirmed that talks between the consortium and Liverpool are advancing for a 30% stake. The reports did not specify the exact financial terms beyond the club’s valuation.
