Portugal rally dropped from 2027 WRC calendar amid last-minute schedule changes
The Automóvel Club de Portugal announced on Tuesday that the Vodafone Rally de Portugal will be excluded from the 2027 World Rally Championship calendar due to last-minute changes by the WRC promoter. The club stated in a release that the adjustment aimed to make the season "geographically as diverse and intercontinental as possible," affecting the event’s scheduling despite a previously set date of May 13–16, 2027 .
Initial discussions between the ACP and WRC organizers have begun to assess a potential return in 2028, according to the club. The rally, first held in 1967, has been a WRC staple since the championship’s inception in 1973, with a brief absence between 2002 and 2006 before returning in 2007. It has been organized continuously by the ACP since 2009 .
Ni Amorim, a rally official, told Público that the reasons for the decision remain unclear but confirmed the expectation of a 2028 comeback .
