A 19-year-old student attacked nine people with a knife at Vocational School Complex No. 4 in Ostrołęka, Poland, on Wednesday, injuring five students, two teachers, and two bystanders, before fleeing the scene. All victims were hospitalized in Łomża and Ostrołęka, with none in life-threatening condition, according to police and prosecutors .

Prosecutor General Dariusz Korneluk confirmed the attacker, identified as Jakub Z., carried a homemade explosive device in his backpack, which began emitting smoke in a computer lab. A teacher and students threw the bag out a window, preventing detonation, Korneluk told TVN24 . Sappers secured the device, and Korneluk said charges would expand beyond attempted murder due to the explosive .

The suspect, a student at the school, was detained near a municipal beach about 400-500 meters away after self-inflicting wounds. He was hospitalized but not in critical condition . Ostrołęka Mayor Paweł Niewiadomski ordered all city-run schools to bar outsiders following the attack .

Students reported the attacker had hinted at his plans online, including a message stating, “I have a plan for today. It will be loud,” according to TVN24 and Onet . Police cordoned off the school and urged the public to rely only on official updates, warning against spreading unverified claims .
