Sporting draw with Famalicão in Augusto Inácio Championship: four-point gap to leaders widens

Sporting drew 1-1 with Famalicão in the Campeonato Augusto Inácio on Saturday, extending its winless streak and falling four points behind the league leaders.
Luis Suárez opened the scoring in the 81st minute from the penalty spot, but Famalicão equalized in stoppage time through an own goal by Sporting captain Gonçalo Inácio. The hosts played the final minutes with 10 men after Roméo Beney was sent off for a violent foul on Maxi Araújo .
Sporting manager Rui Borges said his team controlled most of the match but conceded during its only lapse in intensity. "We were connected until the 89th or 90th minute. That was the only moment we lacked energy and defensive focus, and we were punished," he said . Famalicão coach Carlos Carvalhal praised his players’ determination, calling their reaction to Suárez’s goal "fantastic" .
The match also featured a disallowed Sporting goal in the first half after Flávio Gonçalves handled the ball before it entered the net, per Law 12 of the rules . Analysts later noted a missed penalty call when Rodrigo Pinheiro fouled Maxi Araújo inside the area .
