Russias Prosvetitel Prize shortlists five political non-fiction books for PolitProsvet award

Organizers of Russia’s *Prosvetitel* Prize announced the shortlist for its special *PolitProsvet* award on Friday, naming five non-fiction books focused on the country’s political and social life. The finalists include Konstantin Gaaze’s *Kuda dreifuyut diktatury? Rossiyskaya avtokratiya i vtorzheniye v Ukrainu* (*Where Are Dictatorships Drifting? Russian Autocracy and the Invasion of Ukraine*), published by *Meduza*, alongside works by Timur Atnashev, Andrei Zakharov, Yelena Lukyanova, and Aleksandra Prokopenko.
The jury, chaired by political scientist Yekaterina Shulman, also includes journalist Dmitry Kolezev, political scientist Ivan Krastev, and philosopher Nikolai Plotnikov. Winners will be announced on Nov. 19.
The *PolitProsvet* award is part of the broader *Prosvetitel* Prize, which recognizes popular science books in Russian. Originally founded by Dmitry Zimin’s *Dynasty* Foundation in 2008, the prize has been supported by the Zimin Foundation since 2016 after the foundation’s liquidation. *Meduza*, the publisher of Gaaze’s book, noted that its titles are often censored in Russia and are available in print and digital formats through its online store.
