Cristiano Ronaldo said this season is likely to be his last as a professional footballer in an interview with *Vogue* published Sunday, as he also revealed he had married his long-term partner Georgina Rodríguez in a private ceremony at their home in Cascais, Portugal.
The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward, who has one year remaining on his contract with the Saudi Pro League club, told the magazine, “This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.” He added that he has “25 years with a lot of sacrifice” behind him and plans to fill his time after retirement with travel, padel, and enjoying what he has achieved. Ronaldo, who has scored 976 senior career goals, said he hopes to reach 1,000 before retiring .
Ronaldo and Rodríguez, 32, married on Aug. 11 in the living room of their Cascais home, exactly 10 years after they first met in a Gucci store in Madrid. Rodríguez, who worked as a sales assistant at the time, told *Vogue* they chose the location because it is where they “have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live our real life.” She said she wanted their five children—Cristiano Jr., Alana Martina, Bella Esmeralda, Eva, and Mateo—to remember the moment as something special at their family table. After the ceremony, the couple traveled to the pilgrimage site of Fátima, about 150 kilometers northeast of Cascais, where a priest gave them a blessing in a small chapel .
The couple, who announced their engagement a decade ago, opted for an intimate wedding rather than a lavish public event. Rodríguez said she had once dreamed of a fairy-tale wedding with a castle, carriage, and diamond crown but now values privacy. “Castles, houses, islands, horses, or cars—we have all of that every day. But something truly intimate is much more extraordinary for us,” she said. They plan to hold a larger celebration with family and friends at a later date .
Ronaldo did not play in Al-Nassr’s Saudi Pro League season opener against Al Fateh on Saturday but watched from the stands with his family.
