Berlin’s exploratory coalition talks between the Left Party, Greens and SPD resumed Thursday after a brief suspension triggered by a dispute over antisemitism commitments.

The three parties agreed to incorporate their joint declaration on combating antisemitism into any future coalition agreement, according to Left Party faction leader Elif Eralp. “We have clarified the misunderstandings between us,” Eralp said, adding that meetings would continue “starting tomorrow” to address Berlin’s key challenges .

SPD state chair Steffen Krach confirmed the understanding, stating the Left Party had pledged the Berlin declaration would remain binding and form part of both the exploratory paper and any eventual coalition contract. Krach defended the talks’ interruption as necessary to verify adherence to prior agreements .

The Left Party’s state conference on Oct. 31 will decide whether to enter formal coalition negotiations based on the exploratory results and the antisemitism declaration .
