Ferencváros sponsor Magyar Telekom condemns threatening fan banners at Budapest match
Ferencváros fans displayed threatening banners during a Hungarian league match against Újpest on Sunday, prompting the club’s main sponsor, Magyar Telekom, to publicly distance itself from the messages.
The banners, unfurled by a group of ultras at Groupama Arena, included slogans such as “If you harm Fradi, you will be dead” and “If you harm Fradi, we will kill you,” according to reports. Magyar Telekom, the primary sponsor of Ferencvárosi Torna Club, condemned the messages in a statement posted on social media on Monday, declaring that the club represents “passion and success,” not “threats, aggression, or fear.”
The company emphasized that the banners contradict the values it upholds and requested official statements from both the club and SPORTFIVE Hungary, the arena operator, on measures to prevent such displays in the future. “As the main sponsor of Ferencvárosi TC, Magyar Telekom dissociates itself from every banner and statement used by certain groups of supporters during the weekend’s league match,” the statement read.
Ferencváros later issued its own response, stating that it “fundamentally condemns all threats,” according to the Telex news outlet. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
