Napoli edged Bodø/Glimt 4-3 in a Champions League thriller on Tuesday, with Scott McTominay scoring twice on his return from heart surgery to secure the win for the Italian side.
Matteo Politano opened the scoring for Napoli in the first minute, but Jens Petter Hauge equalized for Bodø/Glimt after 30 minutes. McTominay restored Napoli’s lead before halftime, only for Andreas Helmersen to level again. McTominay struck his second goal on 71 minutes, and an own goal by Odin Bjørtuft extended Napoli’s lead to 4-2 before Sondre Brunstad Fet pulled one back in injury time.
Bodø/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen was critical of his team’s defensive performance, stating they conceded “too many easy goals” and failed to maintain pressure. “When you have momentum, you must not give them the initiative,” Knutsen said. “If you give them an inch, they take a mile. That’s what we did today.” He called the 3-2 goal “completely unforgivable,” citing a poor decision to play the ball back to goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, which led to another easy Napoli chance.
NRK experts Andrine Hegerberg and Magnus Wolff Eikrem echoed Knutsen’s frustration. “It’s brutal. It’s not good enough,” Hegerberg said. “Three goals should have been enough for a win.” Eikrem added, “They must tighten up. Four goals conceded means you usually deserve to lose.”
Kevin De Bruyne was instrumental for Napoli, delivering a key assist for McTominay’s first goal. Eikrem praised De Bruyne as Napoli’s best player, noting his pass “went straight through the entire defense.”
The result leaves Bodø/Glimt in 26th place in the Champions League standings, with five matches remaining. Their next fixture includes a home game against Atlético Madrid.
