Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militia launched a fresh wave of ballistic missile and drone attacks on the Red Sea port city of al-Makha late Sunday, killing at least seven people and wounding 30 others, according to Yemen’s armed forces. The military said four soldiers and three civilians died in the latest assault, which targeted residential areas, civilian infrastructure, and military positions .

Air defenses intercepted and shot down 11 drones, while two ballistic missiles fell into the sea without hitting their targets, the military stated. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the operation targeted Saudi troop concentrations and weapons depots in the area .

The strikes followed an earlier barrage on Sunday that killed at least 11 people, including eight military personnel and three civilians, and wounded 32 others, according to AFP. The earlier attacks caused extensive damage to al-Makha’s port, including commercial goods and food supplies, and authorities reported an unmanned explosive boat was intercepted near the facility .

Separately, the Houthis claimed a drone attack on a Saudi Aramco refinery in Jazan, southwestern Saudi Arabia, describing it as a “precise hit.” The Saudi Ministry of Energy confirmed a fire at the facility was extinguished without casualties but did not specify the cause .

Al-Makha, near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, is a strategic gateway to the Red Sea. The escalation comes amid renewed clashes along multiple fronts in Yemen’s 12-year conflict, following months of relative calm since April 2022 .

Yemeni government forces also reported drone strikes on Houthi positions in Ad Dali province, claiming heavy casualties and destroyed military equipment .

Iran, a Houthi ally, stated the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the U.S. met unspecified demands, according to France 24 . The U.N. Security Council condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, while tensions between the militia and the Saudi-led coalition have surged in recent weeks .
