Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Poland 1-0 in Zenica on Monday in the UEFA Nations League, securing the win with a late penalty converted by Ivan Bašić in the 84th minute. The decisive moment came after French referee Jeremie Pignard awarded the spot-kick following a VAR review of a foul by Poland’s Jan Bednarek on Jovo Lukić, a call Polish manager Jan Urban later disputed, stating, “I don’t understand this decision” and adding, “This was a match for 1-0. Whoever scores, wins. But not like this” .
The victory extended Bosnia and Herzegovina’s unbeaten run to four matches in the competition, leaving them second in Group B4 with 8 points, behind Sweden on 10. Poland, which had won its previous home match against Romania 6-0, dropped to third with 4 points after its second away defeat in the campaign .
Bosnian coach Sergej Barbarez praised his players’ determination, saying, “We got more than we expected. Their determination was fantastic. We will fight for first place in the group” . Poland’s next matches are against Armenia and Montenegro in November, while Bosnia and Herzegovina will host Sweden on Nov. 14 before facing Romania three days later .
