Hungarian man arrested at Croatia-Bosnia border with hand grenades taped under car
Croatian authorities detained a 25-year-old Hungarian citizen on Saturday after discovering two hand grenades taped to the undercarriage of his car at the Slavonski Samac border crossing with Bosnia-Herzegovina, police said.
The man was entering Croatia from Bosnia-Herzegovina when border police and customs officers noticed a suspicious wrapped object attached beneath his vehicle during a routine inspection. A court-approved search revealed two M75-type hand grenades secured with adhesive tape, according to the police statement.
Authorities allege the man himself affixed the grenades to the chassis and intended to smuggle them from Bosnia-Herzegovina into Croatia, and by extension, the European Union. Prosecutors in Slavonski Brod filed charges against him for the suspected illegal possession, acquisition, and manufacture of weapons and explosives. He was subsequently taken into custody .
