Two arrested in north Nicosia over arson attack on car showroom after 400,000 extortion demand
Police in north Nicosia arrested two young men on Wednesday in connection with an arson attack on a used car showroom, Turkish Cypriot media reported. The owner, Tolga Yesil of Tol Cars, said he had received repeated threats and a demand for €400,000 before his business was set on fire .
Authorities suspect the incident may be linked to organized crime, with the extortion attempt and subsequent fire raising concerns about mafia-style enforcement in the area. Yesil’s account of the threats and the demand for protection money was cited as a possible motive for the attack.
