Eight people were injured when a passenger train collided with an electric locomotive at Pidzamche station in Lviv, Ukraine, on Oct. 8, according to Ukrainian authorities and local media.

The diesel-powered train, traveling from Lviv to Sokal, struck the locomotive while departing the station, Ukrzaliznytsia, the state railway operator, said. Initial reports indicated the passenger train’s driver suffered a leg injury and four passengers required medical attention, but the number of injured later rose to eight, Tetiana Andreieva, spokesperson for the Lviv Regional Emergency Medical Care Center, told Suspilne. Five people were hospitalized, while three received treatment at the scene.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said emergency crews worked to free the trapped driver from the cab. The crew of the electric locomotive was unharmed. Ukrzaliznytsia stated that railway specialists and emergency services were investigating the collision, but the cause remained undetermined .

A Telegram post by IntelSlava claimed the collision was “definitely Russian sabotage,” but no official confirmation of the cause has been provided .
