Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis confirmed the scale of the response, noting that the fire had spread rapidly through the dry terrain before crews were able to bring it under control. Operations continued into the evening as firefighters conducted safety checks to ensure no rekindling occurred .
The incident follows a series of wildfires across Europe and the eastern Mediterranean, with Greece also battling multiple blazes on Saturday. In Boeotia, authorities issued evacuation warnings via the 112 emergency system as fires broke out in the Petras and Agios Vasileios areas. Aerial firefighting units were deployed to tackle the flames, with footage shared by local media showing helicopters in action .
In Euboea, a separate forest fire near Spathari prompted the dispatch of 11 aircraft to combat the flames, while in the western United States, a fast-moving wildfire in Utah’s Cottonwood region forced authorities to impose restrictions as shifting winds threatened to push the fire in new directions. The blaze has become one of several major wildfires across the western US, where extreme heat and dry conditions have heightened fire risks .
Across Europe, firefighters have been stretched thin amid record temperatures. In Austria, 280 firefighters battled a wildfire near Melk, with two crew members hospitalised for heat exhaustion. In Germany, multiple fires broke out in the Prignitz region, while in Oldenburg, a major blaze engulfed a roof structure, requiring extensive intervention from local fire services .
The Trachoni fire serves as the latest reminder of the growing threat posed by wildfires during Europe’s increasingly hot and dry summers, with authorities warning that such incidents are likely to become more frequent without sustained action on climate adaptation and forest management.

La decisión se ha adoptado durante la reunión del Centro de Coordinación Operativa Integrada (CECOPI), después de que el director de extinción comunicara la evolución favorable del fuego. Con este cambio de escenario, los vecinos de Azanuy, Alins y Calasanz, que permanecían desalojados desde el avance del incendio, podrán regresar a sus viviendas a partir de las 13:00. No obstante, el Ejecutivo autonómico recomienda que permanezcan dentro de los núcleos urbanos y eviten desplazarse por el entorno afectado, donde continuarán trabajando los equipos de extinción. El consejero de Hacienda e Interior, Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, ha explicado que la bajada del nivel de emergencia responde a la estabilización del incendio, aunque ha insistido en que el operativo seguirá siendo importante durante las próximas horas. En la zona continúan trabajando seis brigadas forestales del Gobierno de Aragón, además de medios aéreos que seguirán refrescando el perímetro para evitar posibles reproducciones. El consejero ha advertido de que la situación meteorológica obliga a mantener la máxima vigilancia. Según las previsiones, la jornada estará marcada por altas temperaturas y viento del sur, con rachas que podrían reactivar algún punto caliente dentro del perímetro del incendio. Además, para este domingo se espera la llegada de tormentas, otro factor que los servicios de extinción seguirán de cerca. En cuanto a la red viaria, la carretera A-2216 continúa cerrada al tráfico. La A-2215 permanece abierta con restricciones, mientras que la A-133 está abierta y la A-1237 también, salvo en el acceso a Azanuy. Durante su comparecencia, Bermúdez de Castro también ha informado de que el incendio declarado este viernes en la zona de Loarre, originado por un rayo y que preocupó por su rápida propagación inicial, ya se da por finalizado tras afectar a una superficie muy reducida de masa forestal. El consejero ha agradecido el trabajo desarrollado durante las últimas 48 horas por los efectivos de INFOAR, la Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME), Guardia Civil, voluntarios, agricultores y las comunidades autónomas que han prestado apoyo, entre ellas Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana y Castilla y León. Asimismo, ha hecho un llamamiento a la prudencia durante todo el verano, al recordar que el incendio de Tamarite arrasó casi 4.000 hectáreas en apenas tres horas, un comportamiento que evidencia el aumento de la virulencia de los incendios forestales. En respuesta a las críticas de algunas organizaciones agrarias por las restricciones impuestas durante la alerta Rojo Plus, Bermúdez de Castro ha defendido que todas las decisiones adoptadas por el Gobierno de Aragón se han basado exclusivamente en criterios técnicos y ha pedido comprensión ante un contexto de elevado riesgo de incendios.
