Far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos detained by ICE in Louisiana for overstaying visa: judge orders deportation

Far-right British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Thursday, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson. The 41-year-old entered the U.S. legally in May 2019 but overstayed his visa, the spokesperson said .
An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a hearing, the DHS confirmed. He remains in ICE custody pending deportation . Fox News reported he is being held in Alexandria, Louisiana .
Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart News editor, had previously advocated for aggressive immigration enforcement. In a June 2025 social media post, he called for ICE checkpoints at supermarkets, gas stations, and government buildings, with “on the spot deportation for anyone who can’t prove they are in the U.S. legally” . Far-right activist Laura Loomer claimed credit for his detention, stating she had reported him to ICE .
Separately, a federal judge on Friday rejected President Donald Trump’s latest bid to overturn his hush-money conviction, ruling that his arguments were “neither new nor legally sufficient.” Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein wrote in a 35-page filing that discussions about hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels could not be considered an official act . The decision follows Trump’s earlier attempts to dismiss the 34 felony counts for falsifying business records on immunity grounds .
The Trump administration also appealed a federal judge’s ruling blocking restrictions on mail voting ahead of the midterm elections. U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani had blocked an executive order requiring states to submit voter lists and use uniform envelopes, citing logistical constraints .
