European energy, defense and finance firms reshuffle leadership in Poland, Spain and Estonia
A wave of leadership changes swept across major European companies on Thursday, reshaping the top ranks at firms in Cyprus, Germany, Hungary, and Poland.
In Cyprus, Logicom appointed Anthoulis Papachristoforou as its new chief executive, effective Sept. 24, following a board decision the previous day. Papachristoforou, a long-serving executive, now oversees day-to-day technology operations, while former CEO Varnavas Irinarchos shifts focus to strategy, investments, and major projects as part of a broader reorganization .
In Germany, Ergo named Guy Goldstein to its board as Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, starting Oct. 1. Goldstein, who remains CEO of Ergo’s U.S. subsidiary Ergo Next Insurance, replaces Mark Klein, the company’s Chief Digital Officer for the past decade, who is leaving at his own request. Ergo, a Munich-based insurer and subsidiary of Munich Re, acquired Next Insurance in 2025 for $2.6 billion .
Hungary’s Mathias Corvinus Collegium dismissed its director-general, Zoltán Szalai, as part of a restructuring that dissolved the institution alongside 14 other state-linked foundations on Aug. 31. Szalai, who led MCC for years, confirmed in a farewell letter that his departure was not his decision but that of the new leadership .
In Poland, PGE Energia Ciepła is set to name a new president after Grzegorz Krystek left the role earlier this month. The supervisory board launched a competition for the position on Sept. 11, with candidate interviews beginning Sept. 23. The company, Poland’s largest cogeneration-based heat and power producer, operates 16 plants and serves major cities including Kraków, Gdańsk, and Wrocław .
