Helen Kevric won silver on the uneven bars at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam on Saturday.

The 18-year-old German scored 14.833 points, finishing behind Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour, who took gold with 15.333. American Skye Blakely claimed bronze with 14.600. Kevric, who entered the final as the second-highest qualifier, secured Germany’s only medal at the championships.

Her performance marked a remarkable comeback after a severe left knee injury in May 2025 sidelined her for over a year. She underwent surgery and faced a grueling rehabilitation, describing the mental challenge as harder than the physical one. “I’m super grateful for the people around me who gave me so much strength,” she told *Welt* before the event. “It wasn’t easy to trust my body again.”

Kevric’s return to competition this summer was swift: she won two titles at Germany’s national championships in July, then gold on the uneven bars at the European Championships in Zagreb in August. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she had been Germany’s youngest athlete, finishing eighth in the all-around and sixth on the uneven bars.

After her routine in Rotterdam, she waited for the scores with little reaction, then smiled as her silver was confirmed. “It’s just incredibly crazy. I can’t quite believe it yet,” she said. “It shows me that after my injury, I took the right path, pushed hard—and now I’m standing here as world silver medalist.”

The last German gymnast to win a world championship medal was Pauline Schäfer-Betz, who took silver on the balance beam in 2021. Kevric’s medal is the first for the German Gymnastics Federation at this year’s championships.
