Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched missile and drone strikes on two Saudi Arabian airports on Tuesday and Wednesday, killing three people and wounding 36 others, Saudi civil aviation authorities said.
The attacks targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport in the kingdom’s southwest. An Egyptian and an Algerian national died at Abha, while a Sudanese national was killed in Riyadh, according to the statement. The Houthis claimed responsibility, stating they had fired a ballistic missile at Riyadh’s airport, disrupting operations.
Saudi Arabia’s military coalition responded by striking 82 Houthi targets, including missile launch sites, command centers, and communication systems. The coalition vowed retaliation, declaring the attacks on civilian infrastructure “will not go unpunished” .
The strikes deepen the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government, has been engaged in a prolonged campaign against the Houthi rebels.
