In Kyrenia, off the coast of Cyprus, a catamaran disaster on Sunday claimed at least eight lives, with all victims identified by Monday. The Filo Jet sank in the Mediterranean, and the first funeral—Nuray Zeytun Ozbiler, a 59-year-old mother of four—was held in Famagusta. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Tufan Erhürman announced a specialized Turkish vessel would arrive Tuesday to conduct deep-water searches for the wreck, located 500 meters below the surface, and to recover the ship’s data recorder. Nine individuals have been detained as part of the investigation .
In South Africa, at least 43 boys have died this year during traditional initiation ceremonies involving circumcision, known as *Ulwaluko*. The rituals, held twice annually, have seen repeated tragedies due to unsterile conditions and untrained practitioners using rusted tools or reusing blades, leading to gangrene, sepsis, and dehydration.
