A sharp weather shift is sweeping across Europe, bringing rain, storms and gusty winds to multiple countries starting Thursday.

In Latvia, meteorologists reported a cyclone approaching from the west, with heavy rain expected in parts of Kurzeme and Vidzeme on Friday. Winds will strengthen nationwide, with gusts of 16–21 meters per second and coastal peaks of 25–27 m/s by Friday afternoon. The storm will ease overnight into Saturday, with gusts dropping to 15 m/s along the coast by day. Thursday itself remains dry and warm, with temperatures reaching 15–20°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre .

Poland is also bracing for change, with rain and thunderstorms forecast from Thursday afternoon into the night, particularly in the north and mountainous regions. Temperatures will drop, and winds may reach 55–70 km/h in some areas, according to Onet . Another Onet report warned of potential gale-force winds up to 100 km/h in northern regions by Friday .

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, cloudy skies and rain are expected across much of the country on Thursday, with unstable conditions persisting in the coming days, Klix reported . Germany’s southwestern regions are also forecast to see heavy rain, according to Zeit .

The first autumn storm in Latvia, expected Friday, follows a record-breaking summer storm on August 22, but meteorologists said wind damage this time would be significantly less severe .
