Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told CNN that Ukraine needs 5 percent of the U.S. stockpile of Patriot interceptor missiles to survive the winter and 10 percent to destroy all of Russia’s ballistic projectiles. “This year, I’m asking American partners to sell me 5 percent of missiles they have in their stocks,” Zelenskyy said. “If they sell us 5 percent, we will go through the winter and save people’s lives. If they can sell us 10 percent, we will destroy all the Russians’ ballistic missiles. I have 1 percent.” Ukraine’s air force announced it would stop publishing detailed figures on Russian ballistic missile strikes as intercepts grow harder.
Acting Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara said Ukraine’s forces would continue deep strikes against Russian infrastructure, logistics and energy facilities. “We will shut down Russia’s war machine,” Khmara said, citing the Novorossiysk operation as a model of synchronized strikes. Zelenskyy also reported that Ukrainian forces had recaptured 745 square kilometers of territory in the southeastern Oleksandrivka sector since January, bringing 26 settlements under Ukrainian control.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of tit-for-tat seizures of European vessels if European countries seize Russian commercial ships or cargo, calling such moves “piracy and robbery.” The warning follows European seizures of vessels linked to Russia’s shadow fleet, which transports oil in breach of sanctions.
Romanian authorities reported that a drone briefly entered Romanian airspace near Tulcea for 10 minutes overnight, prompting the scramble of two F-16 fighter jets and a RO-Alert emergency notification. No damage was reported.
