Amazon cargo plane overruns Miami airport runway, killing five and injuring others
At least five people were killed and five others injured when an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, striking multiple vehicles and erupting in flames, authorities said.
The Prime Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 operated by 21 Air, overshot the runway around 2 p.m. local time after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Miami-Dade officials. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava confirmed the fatalities and injuries during a press conference, stating, “Five people lost their lives and five others were injured.”
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Raied Jadallah said the aircraft struck several vehicles, trapping some occupants inside, while the pilot and copilot were also trapped in the plane. More than 60 fire rescue units responded to extinguish the blaze and address a fuel leak. Videos circulating online showed thick black smoke billowing from the scene.
The FAA issued a ground stop at the airport, halting all flights until at least 5:30 p.m. ET, and later extended disruptions into early Monday, with average delays exceeding six hours. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the FAA was sending investigators, and the National Transportation Safety Board confirmed it was gathering information.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said the company was working closely with local authorities and officials, adding, “Right now, our absolute priority is the safety, well-being, and care of everyone involved.” The airport’s runways and taxiways remained closed as emergency crews continued their response.

Mientras, el aeropuerto de Miami informó en X de que la aeronave quedó inmovilizada en el extremo noreste del aeropuerto y que todas las pistas y vías de rodaje permanecen cerradas, de manera que se han suspendido todos los despegues y aterrizajes.
