Vice President JD Vance said Trump was “sending a message to Iran” with the post, though he clarified the president does not announce military actions on social media . Trump later stated the U.S. would “strike Iran hard” in response to the attacks on Jordan .
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated Tehran’s stance that it seeks a negotiated solution despite the escalation. The strikes followed a classified Pentagon assessment warning that prolonging the conflict was weakening U.S. military readiness elsewhere, according to The Washington Post .
The Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint, with the U.S. stating its Larak Island strike aimed to prevent Iran from deploying sea mines in the critical shipping lane. Iran had previously accused the U.S. of clearing explosives from the area .
Meanwhile, the UAE condemned an Iranian drone attack intercepted over its territorial waters, while Iranian state media released footage it claimed showed drones targeting a U.S. base in the country . Oil prices rose more than 3.5% after the renewed hostilities .
