Manchester City has been found guilty of 114 of 115 financial rule breaches brought by the Premier League, according to multiple reports on Friday. The verdict, delivered by a three-person judicial panel, follows a years-long investigation into alleged financial misconduct spanning 2009–2018, including inaccurate financial reporting and off-the-books payments to players and staff .
The club, which has consistently denied wrongdoing, is expected to appeal. Under Premier League rules, City would have 14 days to file an appeal, with a decision required within 12 weeks. Sanctions, yet to be announced, could range from fines to points deductions or expulsion from the league .
Former Manchester City midfielder Rodri, now at FC Barcelona, said he believed in the club’s innocence. “What we achieved cannot be taken away from us,” he told BBC, referencing the titles won during his tenure .
Christian Purslow, a former Liverpool and Chelsea executive, warned the case could trigger widespread legal claims from rival clubs over lost revenue and competitive disadvantage. Four clubs have already filed protective compensation claims, according to BBC Sport .
Manchester City’s statement maintained its position, citing the ongoing confidential process and its expectation of fair treatment from the league .
