Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 to win the Vienna Open on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Spaniard dominated from the start, breaking De Minaur’s serve in the opening game and racing to a 6-1 first set in 35 minutes. He sealed the match in 87 minutes with a cross-court forehand winner, extending his unbeaten streak in ATP 500 events this year to 16-0 and 26 consecutive matches at that level. The victory marked his fourth title of 2026 and the 28th of his career.
Alcaraz never dropped a set in Vienna, having earlier beaten Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. His win maintained a perfect 7-0 head-to-head record against De Minaur, whom he has now defeated on grass, clay, and both indoor and outdoor hard courts. “I tried to be aggressive and show him that if he wants to win, he has to play better, more aggressive, more solid, and be smarter than me,” Alcaraz said after the match. “I’m just really happy that at the end I found my way, played great. Obviously, it has been a really emotional and amazing week for me.”
The second-seeded Alcaraz, returning to full fitness after injury and fatigue earlier this season, collected €523,305 in prize money. De Minaur, the fifth seed, had reached the final by defeating Alexander Zverev, who will become world number one on Monday. The Australian pushed harder in the second set but could not break Alcaraz’s serve, saving three break points before succumbing to the decisive break at 5-4.
Alcaraz will next compete at the Paris Masters, having already qualified for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin. His performance in Vienna underscored his form ahead of the final stretch of the season, with the Spaniard now 16-0 in ATP 500 events in 2026 after earlier titles in Doha and Tokyo.
