Rockstar Games unveils 26-minute Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on Netflix ahead of November release
Rockstar Games released a 26-minute extended look at *Grand Theft Auto VI* on Netflix on Thursday, showcasing gameplay and cinematic sequences from the highly anticipated title. The footage, captured entirely on a PlayStation 5, marked the first prolonged demonstration of the game’s mechanics, including seamless switching between protagonists Jason and Lucia, dynamic combat, and an expansive open world set in the fictional Vice City and the state of Leonida .
The trailer opened with a botched drug deal, escalating into a police raid and a chaotic shootout, before transitioning to quieter moments such as Jason and Lucia playing basketball, fishing, or skydiving from a skyscraper. The narrative draws inspiration from the 1967 film *Bonnie and Clyde*, focusing on the criminal couple’s relationship as they pursue wealth through increasingly reckless schemes. Players can control either character mid-mission, with the non-player character acting autonomously—taking cover, engaging in dialogue, or providing support during firefights .
Netflix streamed the video exclusively for six hours before it became available on other platforms. The presentation highlighted the game’s attention to detail, from interactive NPCs and environmental storytelling to minor activities like petting dogs or forcing open car windows. The trailer also confirmed the game’s Nov. 19 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no physical disc version announced—purchasers will receive a download code even with a boxed copy .
Some footage had leaked prior to the official reveal, which Rockstar Games had sought to suppress. The game’s budget is estimated at over $1 billion, potentially making it the most expensive entertainment product ever produced. Its predecessor, *GTA V*, sold over 200 million copies since its 2013 release and remains the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, surpassing $1 billion in sales within three days .
