President Donald Trump declared on Thursday that anyone using the term "Artificial Intelligence" instead of "Super Intelligence" would be considered "THE ENEMY!" by the White House. The announcement came via a Truth Social post, escalating his push to rebrand the widely used term.
The directive follows a September executive order requiring federal agencies to adopt "Super Intelligence" in official communications. The State Department had already instructed diplomats to use the new term after Trump’s United Nations speech on Sept. 22, where he argued that "artificial" implies intelligence is "fake." Despite this, the White House’s own AI-focused website, AI.gov, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy still reference "artificial intelligence." An America.gov chatbot, however, now responds to queries about AI by stating the executive branch uses "Super Intelligence (SI)."
Trump’s insistence on the terminology shift comes as public sentiment toward AI sours. A late-September Quinnipiac University poll found 73% of registered voters oppose building AI data centers in their communities, including 55% of Republicans, and 79% prioritize safety over U.S. leadership in AI development.
The president’s latest linguistic ultimatum builds on his earlier efforts to reshape public discourse, including a Truth Social poll offering alternatives like "Superior Intelligence" or "Extreme Intelligence."
