In the past week, Indonesian fires emitted 17.1 million metric tons of carbon, 429% above the seasonal average and second only to Russia, according to Copernicus data. Wildfires destroyed nearly 95,000 hectares in July, nearly double the damage from the prior six months, with average temperatures the highest in 35 years .
In Germany, a fire at a holiday complex in Plau am See, Ludwigslust-Parchim district, caused an estimated €200,000 in damage after flames engulfed several garages and a workshop overnight. Fifteen vacationers were evacuated as a precaution and later allowed to return. The cause remains under investigation .
A thatched-roof house in Schenefeld, Pinneberg district, sustained over €1.5 million in damage after a fire spread across its entire roof. A nearby firefighter arrived early, waking and rescuing residents before reinforcements contained the blaze. A digger was later brought in to assist with post-fire operations .
