Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz will meet US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon on Tuesday to discuss a permanent American military base in Poland.
The meeting is set for 10:30 a.m. local time on November 10, or 4:30 p.m. Polish time. The Pentagon confirmed the date on Friday. A previous meeting planned for September 23 was postponed two days earlier. The postponement was due to Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Washington.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said the talks will cover "bases, the presence of American soldiers, and the Polish-American alliance." He noted last week that he had no problems agreeing on a date but remained cautious after the September postponement.
Poland has sought a permanent US base since May 29. Kosiniak-Kamysz sent a letter to Hegseth on that date. In June, he said he received an official positive response from the US Department of Defense.
The issue was discussed again this week in Krakow. Polish and American officials met there, including US undersecretaries Elbridge Colby and Michael Duffey.
Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said on Wednesday that "everything is on the right track, but a few steps remain." She estimated the decision should come within a few weeks. The final decision belongs to US President Donald Trump.
The meeting comes one week after Democrats won control of both chambers of the US Congress in the midterm elections.
