The Telegraph reported Harry contacted Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and is awaiting the results of an independent assessment to determine whether he and his family qualify for taxpayer-funded protection. A YouGov poll cited by the newspaper found over 70% of Britons believe Harry and Meghan should fund their own security .
The couple has retained homes in California and Portugal, according to The Telegraph, which described their return as a "prolonged stay" .
King Charles III was informed of the Sussexes’ plans earlier this month, and the Prince and Princess of Wales were also notified, according to reports . Harry and Meghan last visited Britain together in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral .
