Ryanair has slashed 12 routes from Berlin Brandenburg Airport as its winter schedule begins today.
The Irish low-cost carrier will drop direct connections to Palermo, Marseille, Triest, Reggio Calabria, Tallinn and Pisa, leaving these destinations without any non-stop service from the German capital. Six other routes—Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Bologna, Lanzarote, Thessaloniki and Vilnius—will be taken over by EasyJet, Eurowings, Sundair, Aegean and Wizz Air. Berlin will retain Ryanair service but lose roughly half its previous flight volume, according to the airport operator FBB .
FBB chief executive Aletta von Massenbach said the cuts will reduce passenger numbers at BER from 26.1 million last year to about 25.7 million in 2026, with a further decline to 25–25.2 million expected in 2027. The airport had originally forecast 27 million passengers for 2027 .
Ryanair has long criticised high airport charges in Germany and specifically at BER. The airline announced earlier this month that it would cut about 700,000 seats across Germany this winter, a 10 percent reduction compared with the previous season. Bremen will lose all Ryanair service, while Hamburg faces a 5 percent reduction; capacity will increase at Memmingen and Cologne, with new winter routes to Saarbrücken and Friedrichshafen .
Other carriers are expanding at BER to offset some of the losses. Eurowings will station two additional aircraft at the airport, bringing its fleet there to 11, and Wizz Air is also increasing its operations. As a result, BER will offer eight more destinations this winter than last, despite Ryanair’s pullback .
