Russian missile and drone strikes hit Kyiv overnight, killing one person and damaging a bridge, metro infrastructure, and a university campus.
The attacks began late on Monday and continued into Tuesday, targeting the Southern Bridge over the Dnipro River, a university dormitory in the Desnianskyi district, and medical facilities, including an intensive care unit. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported one fatality and at least 10 injuries, with most of the wounded being students. Emergency responders, including a paramedic and a medical technician, were also among the injured.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said a ballistic missile struck the university campus, adding that the strikes hit “very crowded areas” with no military facilities nearby. “This was a strike directly on the city, on its infrastructure,” he wrote on social media .
The Southern Bridge, a critical transport artery carrying both road traffic and a metro line, suffered structural damage, forcing authorities to suspend vehicle and train movement. Metro service on the Green Line was disrupted, with trains operating in separate segments due to the damage .
Klitschko confirmed strikes near a metro station in the Desnianskyi district, where a car caught fire, and damage to two medical facilities in the Dniprovskyi district. Windows in an intensive care unit were shattered by the blast wave, though no patients or staff were harmed there .
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported additional hits on an administrative building in the Podilskyi district and non-residential structures elsewhere. A school building and a three-story commercial property were also damaged .
Ukraine’s Air Force had warned of incoming ballistic missiles from Bryansk before the strikes. The attacks followed a pattern of repeated Russian targeting of Kyiv’s bridges and infrastructure this month, including prior hits on the Southern Bridge .
