At least 15 people were killed and 51 injured in a Russian ballistic missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight, Ukrainian authorities reported on Wednesday. The strikes hit residential buildings and warehouses, sparking fires in multiple districts of the capital and its suburbs.
Kyiv’s military administration said the barrage included 24 ballistic missiles, four hypersonic missiles, and 115 drones, with the Kyiv region as the primary target. The administration stated on Telegram that “the enemy is once again deliberately striking civilians and civilian infrastructure.” One woman was killed and at least 24 others wounded in Kyiv, where fires broke out in four districts, according to the administration.
In the Kyiv region, 14 people were killed, with the highest casualties in the Brovary district, where nine died, said Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration. Four more civilians were killed in the Bucha district, and one in the Fastiv district, he added. Rescue operations continued under air raid alerts, with authorities warning of the risk of further strikes.
Meanwhile, a Wildberries warehouse in Russia’s Tula region caught fire after a Ukrainian drone attack, leaving one person injured, according to regional governor Dmitry Milyayev. Wildberries, a major Russian e-commerce company, confirmed the damage and said all personnel were evacuated, with deliveries rerouted from other warehouses. Ukrainian drones also targeted two industrial facilities in the region, Milyayev said.
The overnight attacks follow a pattern of escalating long-range strikes by both sides. On Tuesday, at least five people were killed and 10 wounded in the Moscow region after Ukrainian drones targeted Wildberries depots, according to Moscow’s mayor. Ukraine has not commented on the latest drone strikes inside Russia.
Kyiv has repeatedly urged allies to supply more U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems as Russia increases its use of ballistic missiles. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that several Russian drones remained in Ukrainian airspace after the initial attack.
