The U.S. and Iran exchanged strikes on Wednesday, marking the most significant escalation in weeks after a period of relative calm since July. U.S. Central Command announced it had completed a wave of airstrikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps targets, including air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities, and communications infrastructure .

Jordan’s army said it intercepted 10 ballistic missiles fired from Iran, with three others landing in remote areas. Bahrain and Kuwait also reported missile and drone attacks, with air raid alerts activated in Bahrain .
U.S. officials told Axios that American forces struck around 100 targets in Iran, including two Iranian government tankers, under a new "tanker for tanker" policy. The strikes also targeted IRGC air defense sites, radar systems, and anti-ship cruise missile launchers. A U.S. official said the operation degraded Iran’s attack capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz and "bought at least a month" of lowered threat levels for commercial ships .
President Donald Trump warned that any further Iranian retaliation would prompt a harder U.S. response. "If Tehran retaliates against this entirely justified attack, it will be hit again, much harder and more powerfully," he said via Truth Social. He also claimed the U.S. now has "almost total control" of the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran’s economy is "in a state of collapse" .
CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins responded to Iranian reports of civilian casualties, stating, "We’re aware of the reports, which originated from Iranian state media. The U.S. military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC" .
The latest round of conflict began on Sunday when the U.S. struck Iranian targets, ending a month of relative calm. Iran had previously vowed retaliation after U.S. forces hit IRGC units on Larak Island on Aug. 30, targeting units preparing to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz .
