Russia launched a missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight, killing at least three people, including a child, and injuring seven others, Ukrainian authorities reported on Wednesday.
In Kyiv, two women were killed in the Sviatoshynskyi district, where a dozen homes were damaged, according to the State Emergency Service. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said five people were injured in the capital, with two hospitalized. Fires broke out in multiple districts, including a warehouse in Podilskyi and a shop in Obolonskyi, officials said. Debris also fell near a western embassy in Shevchenkivskyi district.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 188 drones, including 86 jet-powered models, along with Zircon, Onyx, and Iskander missiles. Air defenses shot down five missiles and 155 drones, it added. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed the strikes targeted a communications center and energy infrastructure supporting military production in Kyiv and the region .
Power outages were reported in Kyiv’s Pechersk district, and NASA data detected fires at the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant and TPP-5 .
