Ukraine launched a major drone attack on Moscow with over 400 drones on July 20, 2026, wounding at least 10 people and setting several buildings ablaze, Russian officials said. Meanwhile, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed eight Russian air defense assets on the night of July 19-20, including six in Krasnodar Krai and two in the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Commander Robert "Magyar" Brovdi said.
"Eight air defence assets were tracked down and destroyed in the enemy's operational depth," Brovdi said.
In another development, Ukraine struck a Russian FSB coordination center in occupied Kherson Oblast with 13 drones, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Preliminary estimates suggest that around 100 Russian troops may have been present at the facility at the time of the attack.
The attacks came in response to Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian cities. On July 19, a Russian strike on a ship near the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa killed at least 10 people, according to Ukraine's seaports authority.
Russian strikes on the Odesa region have killed 28 people in July alone, according to regional governor Oleh Kiper. In Kharkiv and the surrounding region, Russian strikes over the past day killed four people and injured 48 others, according to local authorities.
In another development, Russia said a Ukrainian strike on a bus in the border region of Belgorod killed five civilians, including a minor, and left three others critically injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attacks on Moscow were a response to Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities. "We are responding, justly, to every Russian strike against our cities and communities," he said in a post on X.
The SBU said the FSB coordination center in Kherson Oblast was located in a complex of buildings and was guarded by armed guards, checkpoints, engineering barriers, and underground shelters.
"Such special operations cause significant losses to the enemy in the temporarily occupied territories, disrupt their command and control systems, force the Russians to redistribute additional forces to guard their own facilities, and significantly complicate the logistics and supply of FSB units," the SBU said.
The escalation in attacks comes as Ukraine faces a shortage of Patriot interceptor munitions, which are used to defend against Russian ballistic missiles.
